JULY 18: A Custer Passes On

Matilda Viers Custer, Emmanuel H. Custer’s first wife, dies on July 18, 1835 at the age of 31. They were married Aug. 7, 1828. She and Emmanuel, George Armstrong Custer’s father, had three children: Hannah (died in infancy); Brice William (April 23, 1831-April 6, 1904); and John Viers (April 22, 1833-July 29, 1836.)
